Nicole isn’t really like the raunchy image

The long road to Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger’s solo album may, finally, be reaching its destination. Her super-powered new single Poison, produced by Lady Gaga associate Red One, suggests it’s time for Nicole’s solo star to shine. “I hope so,” she smiles, sipping tea in her London hotel room. “I need the people of the UK to get behind it and make it the No1 hit that it is.”

There have been several false starts. In 2007, Whatever U Like was the first of four under-performing singles from the subsequently scrapped My Name Is Nicole album.

Back in The Pussycat Dolls, Scherzinger, 32, performed her duties while straining at the doors of the cat house. Breaking out on her own, she won the US Strictly Come Dancing equivalent Dancing With The Stars, appeared in a Hollywood Bowl production of rock musical Rent, rocked out with Slash and Alice Cooper, and made a warmly-received guest spot judging on The X Factor.
“It’s my first solo album and I just want to make sure it’s the right timing,” she says. “The last time I didn’t release the album because it wasn’t the right timing. Timing is everything and I’m really pumped and excited about the music I’ve been working on.
“What’s so great about working with RedOne is that there is a thread of connected energy. I wanted to make music that would be explosive, dangerous and dynamic live.
