Nicole Scherzinger is far more “at home” in musical theatre than she is singing pop songs.

The 32-year-old singer is a member of girl group The Pussycat Dolls and has also had success as a solo artist. She enjoys singing pop hits, but is far happier treading the boards.

She is currently preparing to star in an upcoming Hollywood Bowl production of Rent, directed by Neil Patrick Harris. The brunette beauty can’t wait for opening night because she feels like her whole life has been leading up to that performance.

“It’s funny because people are used to me singing Don’t Cha and Buttons and this is actually where I’m the most home,” she told BBC News.

“This is where I get to just be me, and be how I grew up with my musical theatre friends. I feel like everything in my life so far has prepared me for this, has given me confidence because to be a lesbian performance artist activist, you need to be willing to go there.”

High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens stars alongside Nicole in Rent. She is equally excited about the production because it represents a rare chance to do something she is really “passionate” about.

“I’m having the most amazing time,” the 21-year-old star gushed. “I feel like the stars are aligning and I finally get to do something that I’m really passionate about and is challenging at the same time.”
